A slightly different restoration project is the production of
avenue signs throughout the cemetery. These have been designed by our member
David Cowley (shown left), based on
an old sign he discovered within the
grounds.David Cowley

Each replica is constructed, painted and lettered by David, with the
Society bearing the cost of the materials. Each signpost is supported on a
single wooden post and stands about 2 feet tall. The post incorporates the
initials of the Society.
The first six signs were erected in October 1999,
starting appropriately enough
with St David's Avenue. Since then over 50 signs
have been placed throughout the cemetery. However, with over 60 named avenues
within the cemetery, this project will take some years to complete.
David also maintains existing signs that become damaged or
discoloured.
